N'awlins (Nu Or-Lenz) is the equivalent pronunciation for New Orleans. The colloquial symbol of the city of New Orleans is the fleur de lis (Flower of the Lily). It is a French symbol used by royal families dating back to the 13th century. The French Quarter, also known as the Vieux Carré, is the oldest section of the city. New Orleans Louisiana, or NOLA, is also well known for its Mardi Gras parades.
